Examples of Wedding Vows

Examples of Wedding Vows Available

These examples of wedding vows are written to be repeated by both spouses and are not gender specific.

Contemporary Vows

1. I take you to be my wife/husband. I promise to be faithful to you by my words and through my actions whether we are together or we are apart, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you and our relationship through all the days of my life.

2. I take you as my wife/husband, to care for you and trust you, to cherish you and respect you, to forgive you and be forgiven by you. I will love you in good times and in bad, when we are together and when we are apart. I will hold our relationship as sacred for as long as we both shall live.

3. I take you as my wife/husband. I pledge to share my life openly with you, to speak the truth to you in love. I promise to honor and tenderly care for you, to cherish and encourage your own fulfillment as an individual through all the changes of our lives.

4. Thank you Groom/Bride for helping me to fill my world with meaning. Thank you for accepting me as I am. My aim is not to change you but to grow with you as an individual. I pledge before God and this company to be gentle and kind, strong and forgiving, and to love and cherish you forever as my wife and friend. I celebrate and acknowledge the miracle of us.

Traditional Wedding Vows

I, Spouse, take you, Spouse, for my lawfully wedded wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health for as long as we both shall live.

If you have a sense of humor or just a tad desire to step out of the traditional role a bit, consider adding to the traditional vows any variation or verbatim of this:  Bride says at the start of her vows, “Thank you for my beautiful ring”.

Groom to Bride: “You are my one and only. If you die first I’ll never marry again.”

Bride to Groom:  “You are my one and only. If you die first, I’ll be sad.”
